Doll Making

Doll Making
Date Created - 2000
The Doll Making program teamed residents from Germantown Home and local students in a series of intergenerational activities that challenged the seniors' memories and expanded the students' understanding of and respect for the residents. The displays were accompanied by an audio recording, edited from interviews to provide a narrative dimension to each doll.

Our Programming

As a proud member of the NewCourtland Network, Germantown Home carries out a healing mission for Philadelphia's seniors by meeting their individual and changing needs. To ensure our residents feel at home and remain physically, mentally, and spiritually active and engaged within the community, Germantown Home offers a variety of social, spiritual, and cultural programming, including:

  • Comfort & Joy: This award-winning, community-based interactive arts and cultural program celebrates intergenerational artistic achievement by pairing seniors with school-aged children and local artists. Comfort & Joy™ also places seniors in the role of knowledge-givers, thus renewing and enhancing their sense of purpose and self-worth.

  • Pastoral Care: This community-based initiative supports the spiritual needs of seniors by creating environments where spiritual fellowship can grow for all people – regardless of faith, tradition, belief and background.

  • Seniors Empowered for Lifelong Fitness (SELF): Designed to enhance and promote the physical well being of seniors, SELF is a specialized exercise program of stretching, mobility and calisthenics.
